Exceptional’s main location is in Gilgil – more than 2,000 metres above sea level and with a cultivation area of no less than 25 hectares, Exceptional grows the most beautiful summer flowers. But this has not always been the case. We would like to take you on a journey through the history behind our diverse range of seasonal flowers.

Africalla’s origins go back to 2003. Africalla originally specialised in growing callas, also known as Zantedeschia. With production on over 35 hectares, the nursery was a global market leader. Due to various outside influences, shareholders Harry, Geert, Colete and Sjaak decided to stop growing Zantedeschia in 2019 and focus entirely on growing seasonal flowers.

After the range changed, the name Africalla was no longer appropriate. Following a rebranding, the products are now being marketed under the Exceptional name. The nursery currently has a cultivation area of 25 hectares, on which a wide variety of summer flowers are grown. The nursery aims to constantly grow main products, up-and-coming products and test products.

Exceptional is Africalla’s colourful brand of high quality summer flowers. A brand born out of the nursery’s history and love for its Dutch/African roots. Exceptional stands for strength, honesty and reliability: an attractive combination that makes a difference for our customers, in the market, with product innovation, and for our employees and environment.
We are proud of where we come from, and we want to project this. Our strength is therefore symbolised by the national animal of Kenya and also the symbol of the Netherlands: the lion!
